Rename New Grounds School after Cruickshank, says NDP leader
Opposition Leader, Dr Godwin Friday, has suggested naming a government school in honour of former New Democratic Party (NDP) Member of Parliament, the late Allan Cruickshank.
Friday specifically called for the New Grounds Primary School to be renamed the Allan Cruickshank Primary school in honour of the former Minister of Government in the NDP administration, who was buried on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at the Sans Souci Cemetery after a massive funeral service on the grounds of the nearby New Grounds Primary School.
The school is located in the constituency of South Central Windward, which Cruickshank represented in Parliament from 1984-2001.
“The nation knows of the tremendous service that he gave over the years,” Friday said as he paid tribute to Cruickshank, who died at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital on March 1, 2025.
“This service must be respected and remembered, so that the good that he did on this earth is not … interred with his bones, but will be remembered.”
The Opposition Leader also called on the nation to ensure that Allan Cruickshank’s service and contribution “are recorded in some way, well beyond the fragile memories of those of us who know him well, or those who, since his death, know him from the tributes given”.
