ULP plans big celebrations for 24 years in office
TODAY, Friday March 28, marks exactly 24 years since the Unity Labour Party (ULP) won the 2001 General Election and took the reins of governance in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
With this in mind, the political party has dubbed today “Red Friday”, the ULP colour, and has planned a weekend of activities that will culminate at the Rabacca Recreational Park on Sunday, March 30,2025.
ULP spokesperson, Shevrell “Candy Man” McMillan said the ULP has achieved many firsts in the history of SVG, including 24 consecutive years of “really good governance.”
“We are commemorating that, and we are inviting Vincentians to wear red,” Mc-Millan told SEARCHLIGHT.
He said the ULP will be having a number of “red limes” in different constituencies, “especially in the evening”.
On Sunday afternoon, the party faithful will head North-east to the Recreational Park at Rabacca where events there are expected to commence around 5:00 p.m.
These will include speeches from ULP candidates who will be contesting the upcoming General Elections including Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.
“We’re expecting elections before the end of this year, so you can look out for the big names. You know, the big ones will be out, Saboto Caesar, Camillo Gonsalves, Keisal Peters, Carlos James…we will look to see the passing of the torch, because we’re twinning this 24th anniversary celebration with the launch of the Unity Labour Party candidate for North Windward, Grace Walters,” Mc Millan outlined.
“So, you will see the passing of the torch there from the incumbent, Montgomery Daniel to her.”
