‘Likkle’ book lover takes first place in KCCU Mastermind Quiz

IT WAS A BATTLE OF BRAINS and quick thinking at the finals of the 2025 Kingstown Cooperative Credit Union (KCCU) Mastermind Primary Schools Quiz, with the youngest and smallest finalist, described by the organizers as ‘likkle but tallawah’, taking home the winning trophy.

At the end of the final round, Jamilia Davis, a Grade Five student of the Spring Village Methodist School, ended the quiz with the highest points tally, 7250 points. Davis was also awarded for the highest score in the Credit Union Trivia category of the quiz competition.

Second place went to Jase Thomas, Grade Six student of the CW Prescod Primary School; in third place was Dazen Munro, Grade Six pupil of the Biabou Methodist School. Grade Six pupil, Raffique Latchman of the Sion Hill Government School was fourth, and Clarissa Cain of the Barrouallie Government School was fifth.

Following the preliminary and semi-final rounds, the final five met at the UWI Global Campus on Thursday, March 27, 2025 for the big showdown.They competed in a number of categories, Multiple Choice, Close Ended,Trivia round which included comprehension, local history and mathematics, and the Buzzer round.

Davis led from the opening round and came out on top in the other rounds as well. She shone in the Buzzer round, coming in to “steal” when other students submitted incorrect answers.

In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT following the announcement of the winners, the pint-sized lass revealed that she did not know much about the competition, and was encouraged by her teachers to participate. She also admitted that the preparation for the competition was quite exhausting.

“I did a lot of reading and a lot of writing. I felt nervous, and I also felt that I had to do my best,” Davis said, adding that she considered the Trivia round to be the most challenging as the questions were “hard”.
