US Christian bears a cross for his faith

Many people profess to be Christians, but not many may be prepared to demonstrate their faith in the way in which Keith Wheeler has been doing.

Wheeler, a US citizen, recently visited St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) and last week many people witnessed the Caucasian male carrying a 12-foot wooden cross all around the mainland.

Wheeler, a Christian who has committed his life to follow and spread the word of God, said he began carrying the cross on Good Friday in 1985, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA, and has now walked through 192 countries on all seven continents.

Wheeler spoke to SEARCHLIGHT last Thursday on Halifax Street where he paused to speak to curious Vincentians about the cross with one of the questions being, “why do you do this?”

He said one night he was praying and the Holy Spirit spoke to him.

“I don’t think I chose to do it. I made myself available, and he (Jesus) chose me. He invited me, and the thing is, I’m not the man who’s carried the cross around the world, that’s only half of it,” Wheeler explained.
