New Man at the helm of CDC plans an overhaul of VincyMas

The newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), Rodney Small, has outlined a number of plans for VincyMas which include improving the festival’s digital presence and building a more “transparent and inclusive” environment.

On Monday, March, 11, 2025, Small’s appointment was announced by the Minister of Tourism, Culture, Sustainable Development and Civil Aviation, Carlos James during a press conference to celebrate the 2025 PATWA Awards.

Former CEO, Ashford Wood, demitted office in late 2024, leaving room for Small to take up the position and making him the youngest person to head the organization.

Small, a pannist and also Director of the National Commission on Crime Prevention (NCCP), and the Deputy Chair of the Prime Ministerial Advisory Council on Youth, said his vision for VincyMas is to blend traditional heritage with innovative approaches to make the festival more attractive to international audiences.

“My vision for VincyMas is to … expand the digital footprint of VincyMas through enhanced online streaming and digital marketing campaigns allowing the Diaspora and global enthusiasts to connect with our culture from any corner of the world.”

He identified as a target area, the simplifying of the logistics for attending VincyMas events which would see the implementation of an online payment system for festival events and merchandise.
