CID officers call for more manpower
Officers within the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have identified a lack of manpower and technology as some of challenges affecting the operations of their jobs.
The CID recently hosted their annual awards ceremony where outstanding detectives were honoured for their contribution to crime fighting.
Speaking on the Cop Chat programme on WEFM, top Detective, Police Constable, Enrico Castello said the department has been able to work closely with the IT Department in the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF), but noted that the police need to be equipped with technological tools to match what is being used by criminal networks.
“Another challenge is lack of modern technology. Criminals are using sophisticated tools that present a challenge to detectives,” PC Castello added.
“ However, there is a specialized unit to combat this issue which is the IT [Information Technology] Department.”
Castello was able to gain the top award by affecting 53 arrests out of the 103 reported cases he managed last year.
Sergeant Justin Cupid praised the award programme initiated by head of the CID, Superintendent Clauston Francis saying it motivates detectives to continue to seek resolution of cases.
