Dismissed health workers uncertain about rehiring conditions, as Covid Mandate case heads to the Privy Council

Trade unions in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) involved in the COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate case have described the Prime Minister’s call for dismissed workers to return to work as unfair and, in some cases, impractical.

Earlier this week, the Public Service Union (PSU), the SVG Teachers Union (SVGTU), and the Police Welfare Association indicated that they will appeal the recent ruling from the Eastern Caribbean Court in favour of the government at the Privy Council.

At a news conference on Monday, February 24,2025, Union heads cited their motivation for the appeal as being in the interest of not only Vincentians, but also the region, as the ruling has the potential to impact the future handling of medical crises.

SVGTU President , Oswald Robinson, responding to a recent call by Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves for dismissed teachers to reapply for their jobs, said teachers are not happy that they have lost most of their benefits after being severed from the service.
