WhatsApp group with sexual content and underage children
A mother who found an unsavory WhatsApp group on her grade six daughter’s cellular phone is calling on parents to check their children’s digital devices and monitor their online communications.
The WhatsApp group, called LINK.VVC, is said to have over 300 persons and has explicit sexual content and conversations with van conductors, van drivers, older men and underage boys and girls (from at least one of the nation’s private primary schools).
The parent who discovered the group on her daughter’s phone informed several other parents through a WhatsApp broadcast.
“The content is nothing I would want any grade six student to be involved in…adult conversations,” the mother commented in a message she sent out. She said she was also very concerned that many parents, when she informed them, were unaware that their nine-, ten- and eleven-year-olds, were in this chat group, and some were actually taking part in sexual conversations with men twice and three times their age, while others were just reading and not responding.
“On occasion, I would normally check my daughter’s phone and her WhatsApp chats especially just to see what is going on in her life and was very surprised…” the woman said in the message she sent to other parents.
“I am saying all this to say that I recognize a few other students from our class in this chat which should be of great concern to us all. This is not the way for them to be drafted into the adult world of sex and other nefarious situations,” the concerned mother stated.
She asked for parents to tell their children not to accept ‘invites’ to groups like these.
“Please take the time to remind our kids that if they are invited to things like this they are not to accept…..”
