Who paid for Vybz Kartel’s visit, NDP asks

The New Democratic Party (NDP) is calling on the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) administration to say who footed the bill for Jamaican dancehall artiste, Adidja Azim “Vybz Kartel” Palmer when he visited St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) last August.

Palmer was in SVG last year where he met with local medical personnel as he is suffering from Graves’ Disease, an autoimmune disorder that can cause hyperthyroidism, or overactive thyroid.

A buzz was created on social media among the Vincentian community when Palmer said he was looking to three countries to pursue medical care for his condition and named SVG among them.

But as the publicity behind Palmer’s visit began to fade, the trip to SVG roared back into the headlines over the weekend when, in an interview released by the popular Drink Champs on YouTube, Palmer said, “I went to St. Vincent…. The Prime Minister sent for me…his private jet and everything.”

Palmer later posted on social media that he had paid for his own trip to SVG because “I’m rich” but since then, the NDP said in a release, “we need to hear from the Prime Minister. The people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines demand full transparency on government spending, they need answers.”
