Government urging dismissed workers to re-apply
The dismissed public sector workers in the ‘COVID-19 Vaccine Case’ will soon be informing the public on their next move following the decision handed down on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 by the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal that went in favour of the Government.
Appeal Court judges Eddy Ventose and Paul Webster upheld the Government’s vaccine mandate appeal, while Justice Gerhard Wallbank was the dissenting voice in the 2-1 majority decision.
President of the Public Service Union, Elroy Boucher told SEARCHLIGHT yesterday, February 20, 2025, that discussions between the Unions have already been held in deciding their response to the Appeal Court ruling, and they are planning to meet with their lawyers later this week to arrive at a final decision.
After this meeting, a press conference will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025 to inform the public what their next move will be.
Defence Counsel, Jomo Thomas, who is one of the lawyers representing the dismissed workers, said in a statement issued following Appeal Court decision that the legal team was “disappointed” in the court’s majority decision.
“We believe that Justice Wallbank was correct in his dissent and that the High Court decision issued by Justice Henry was strongly grounded in a correct interpretation of the law,” he said in the statement.
