Boss at Medicinal Cannabis Authority says traditional growers are benefitting from Industry.
Since the passage of the Medicinal Cannabis Act in 2018, traditional cultivators in St Vincent and the Grenadines are said to have been making headway in the industry, though the challenges are many.
This has come from Chief Operating Officer at the Medicinal Cannabis Authority (MCA), Terrol Mapp.
Speaking on the February 13, 2025 edition of COP Chat on WEFM on the topic – Medicinal Cannabis In Focus: Understanding The Regulations Under The Act of 2018, Mapp said traditional cultivators have been earning in the industry, while also admitting that it has not lived up to full expectations.
“Traditional cultivators’ products are on the market through that relationship with investor entities who are processing it into oil and packing it into something. Traditional farmers have been paid in cheque and have been able to go to a bank and deposit that money which exists only in St Vincent,” Mapp stated.
He noted though that traditional cultivators have been hit by several local and global crippling events.
“The industry has not met full expectations. We cannot forget that there was COVID, there was a volcano, [Hurricane] Elsa and [Hurricane] Beryl. With all these shocks it has been difficult to get it on a smooth path.”
