Leacock: “who vex bathe”

Vice President of the New Democratic Party (NDP), St Clair Leacock has repeated his desire to see Senator Shevern John become the first female Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

Leacock restated his desire to see this happen when he spoke at a meeting of the NDP at Orange Hill on Friday night February 7, 2025.

While stating that “some may be offended,” Leacock stated emphatically that “Shevern John will become the first female prime minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines”.

He also told the gathering at Orange Hill that after he departs from the political scene, he will be happy that people like Senators Shevern John and Israel Bruce, and others, will still be there.

After making his desire about Senator John, Leacock sarcastically commented “who vex bathe.”

Leacock who is the Member of Parliament for Central Kingstown added that the NDP’s female senator has the qualities required to be at the helm as prime minister.

He said it is his heart’s desire that when he leaves as Vice President of the NDP, the senator “could step into my shoes”.

John, who resides in Owia, will be the NDP’s candidate for the North Windward constituency in the next general election due this year. She contested the seat in the 2020 general election, but was defeated by the incumbent representative, Montgomery Daniel of the Unity Labour Party (ULP).

Daniel has said that he will not be contesting further elections, and has given his blessings to Grace Walters, administrator at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital as the party’s new candidate for North Windward.

Leacock first hinted about his personal choice of Senator John as the first female prime minister last October when he spoke at the NDP’s open convention session in Petit Bordel.
