Paralyzed youth to undergo surgery overseas
The Owia community is collectively praying for the speedy recovery of three males who were injured in a crash which claimed the life of a teen who was set to join the British Navy in weeks.
One of the more seriously injured men, Giovanni Phillips, is reportedly paralyzed as a result of the Sunday, February 2, 2025 car incident, and arrangements are being made for him to undergo surgery overseas.
Last Sunday’s crash which occurred at Gorse/Byera road when the rental car in which the four men were travelling plunged off the road and over an embankment. Normanie Duncan, 19 years old who died at the scene of the crash became this country’s first road fatality for 2025.
Phillips, a passenger in the rental car, suffered a serious spinal injury and is currently hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.
His cousin, Keeta Bowens, said the Milton Cato Hospital is in the process of preparing 24 year old Phillips for transfer to Trinidad and Tobago. She revealed that he is “tearful” about his current diagnosis.
James Nanton, the grandfather of Elrico Patterson, was emotional during his interview with SEARCHLIGHT, describing his grandson and the deceased as bosom buddies . “I am very sorry that this thing happen this way. We sorry that Normanie gone so young. I feeling so sorry for all of them.”
