Mother calls for thorough investigation into son’s fatal crash

A North Windward mother, who has lost her only child, is calling on the authorities to complete a full investigation into the exact cause of a fatal crash, as well as the condition of the rental vehicle transporting the four occupants- three of whom still remain in hospital.

Nineteen year old Normanie Duncan returned to St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) on December 23, 2024, and anticipated leaving the country soon to start his journey with the British Armed Forces.

The teen had already completed the intake process and was apparently only waiting on a confirmation email from the Navy.

On Sunday, February 2, 2025, Normanie’s plans for his future were cut short when he and three other Owia residents were involved in a crash along the Byera/Gorse road. The rental car, registration number RL898-reportedly went over an embankment and fell into a ravine. The vehicle was braced by a tree before falling onto a wall below.

Normanie’s extrication from the vehicle was an arduous task for emergency responders as the car rested on a slope and he was trapped in the back seat of the smashed vehicle. By the time he was removed from the wreck he had already died.

His mother, Thomascina Duncan, was surrounded by family and friends when SEARCHLIGHT visited the Owia home this week.

Police Officer Duncan, who was too distraught to be interviewed on camera, told SEARCHLIGHT reporters she was immensely heartbroken at the loss of her son, who was described by residents as a playful, fun-loving person who “loved his belly”.
