Mother of bullied teen frustrated by lack of action from Ministry of Education
A Campden Park mother is calling on the Ministry of Education to take seriously the reports of bullying involving her teen son and move with haste in facilitating a transfer before further incidents occur.
The mother, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the child, said the harassment of her son started last year, the first year at the rural secondary institution.
The first incident involved a male student slipping a packet of silica gel into the child’s water bottle. He later drank it.
Silica gel is usually packed in new shoes and used as a dry agent, and while it is generally believed to be non-toxic, it is labelled ‘Do Not Eat’.
The teen underwent medical treatment to have his system flushed following the incident, with the medical expenses being covered by the parent of the student who is said to have tainted the boy’s water. The students involved were suspended and penalized by the school.
The second incident involved the teen being slammed against louvres in the classroom and taunted.
“The boy call me a batty-boy,” the teen told SEARCHLIGHT in an interview.
