Mosquitoes have become a nuisance for central market vendors and cleaners who have to work in this environment daily, and members of the Vector Control Unit are to meet today, Februry 7, 2025, to determine how best to sort out the problem.

Mosquitoes have made the Kingstown Central Market’s basement their breeding ground as water frequently accumulates in the space.

Now, the infestation of mosquitoes has become an annoyance for the vendors and workers who claim that people are getting sick and they do not know if there maybe a link to the mosquitoes.

Management of the Central Market said that they have reached out to the vector control unit and public health about the problem however, there has been no change. Manager, Johnny Jones said he called them as recently as Wednesday, February 5, 2025, but had not received an update so he did not know when things would change.

He said one of the agencies went in and decided to set bait, however, they are still having problems with the mosquitoes. Jones said he is now trying other ways to get the health authorities to come in and have another look at the issue.
