Mechanic, 23, remanded for murder and attempted murder

A young man of Glen was remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of a baker, and attempting to murder a 13 year old student.

Kamal Ballantyne, a 23 year old mechanic of Glen appeared at the Serious Offences Court before Senior Magistrate Colin John, yesterday, January, 27, 2025 where he was charged with the offences of murder and attempted murder.

Ballantyne was charged that on December 15, 2024 at Glen with malice aforethought he caused the death of 23 year old Isaiah Antrobus, a baker of Redemption Sharpes by an unlawful act.

In addition, Ballantyne was charged that on the same date and place, with intent to commit the offence of murder on Cody Nathan, a 13 year old student, he did an act which is more than merely preparatory to the commission of the offence.

The charges were laid indictably, so Ballantyne was not required to plea. He is remanded in custody and will reappear in court on January 27, 2025.

Nathan was reportedly shot in the arm, while recordings on social media showed Antrobus lying dead in a pool of blood on a main road in Glen with gunshot wounds to the head.

He was shot and killed in the East St. George community around 6:00 p.m.

His death took the homicide count in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) for 2024 to 52.
