A life of crime is precarious – PM Gonsalves
Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves has once again made an appeal to persons about the futility of wanting to live a life of crime.
Gonsalves, who is also this country’s Minister of National Security, aired his views on NBC’s Face to Face programme on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, where he warned about the dangers of such a lifestyle.
“The life of crime is precarious, it doesn’t pay,” he declared, noting that while a lifestyle of crime “may pay for somebody who is in the shadow,” it is not worth the while.
“It ain’t ending you up anywhere at all,” Gonsalves declared.
The prime minister, a now inactive seasoned defense lawyer, concluded that at the heart of it, crime “is driven by greed and money”.
With particular reference to young males who entertain the idea of a life of crime, Gonsalves warned that crime is a path which would lead to their personal damnation, anguish and pain.
Pointing out the link between the illegal drugs trade, guns and bullets, he restated a point made at other times that “you either go to jail, or… the odds are that you are going to die prematurely”.
The prime minister appealed to young people instead to learn a skill so they
can make a meaningful contribution to society.
“There is more work now than we have workers,” Gonsalves pointed out.
He appealed to the youths of the nation to get involved in such positive engagements as sports, culture, church, and community activities, rather than to live a life of crime.
