Faibairn Pasture resident shot and killed in Rose Place
This week, a sea of condolences poured out over social media for Jarvis “Smadd Dan” Horne, the 26-year-old Fairbairn Pasture/Belmont resident who was shot and killed in Kingstown on Monday December 9.
Around 6:00 p.m., a gunman shot Horne in the head and chest multiple times in the vicinity of his workplace. Horne, also known as “Bakes”, was employed at the Sanitation Department and was also a vendor, and an aspiring artiste. He was transported to the nearby Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), but was pronounced dead on arrival (DOA).
Persons on social media expressed surprise that Horne had been killed in this manner.
One Facebook user going by the name Latoya Revierre wrote, “knew him since he was a small youth he was a very respectful young man really sad he died”; while Narissa Noel commented, “Smaddy am gonna miss you the most helpful youth I know of friendly, respectful, hard working words can’t describe him I really feel this one serious my condolences to the family may his soul RIP.”
A user by the name of Richelle Coombs commented, “I can’t believe this. He was a very cool guy. Always on the hustle. RIP AND SIP, my brethren, till we meet again.”
In a December 10, 2024 press release, Police investigators appealed in a release to people with information that could assist in this investigation to come forward.
“Your cooperation is vital in ensuring justice in this matter and maintaining the safety and security of our nation,” the release further stated.
One day after Horne was killed, another shooting took place in Rose Place with persons entertaining the idea that it was in retaliation for his death. A man was shot in the leg when a gunman, dressed as a construction worker and wearing a high visibility vest, opened fire on a group of men who were hanging out under a canopy.
The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) said it is investigating Horne’s fatal shooting. His death took the murder count for 2024 to 51.
