PM looks to become ‘Six Star General’ after next elections
Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, has pronounced that he will move up a notch and wear the figurative badge of ‘Six Star General’ after the next General Elections expected in late 2025. Gonsalves, who is currently referred to as the ‘Five Star General’, made the prediction on Friday, November 15, 2024, as he delivered the feature address at a ceremony in Langley Park, Georgetown, during which offer letters for lands were given to 128 persons and ground was broken for a sporting facility.
The Prime Minister said there are more lots to be distributed nationwide. With an eye on general elections, he also used the opportunity to issue a warning to those in attendance about support for the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP).
“ The NDP will turn St Vincent and the Grenadines into a condition like Haiti,” he declared, referencing the situation of the impoverished Caribbean island that for years, has been plagued by political and civil unrest, and where gun-toting thugs currently control large swaths of the capital, Port-au-Prince.
“…you have seen from where we have brought this country from 2001 to the present time,” Gonsalves noted, adding that the NDP will be “coming for revenge.,” and, “they want to kick you out of your job.”
The Prime Minister issued a reminder that under his leadership since 2001, this country has never gone to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial bail-out, nor has it ever had to sell the St Vincent and the Grenadines passport as is the case in other neighbouring counties. The Opposition leader has promised that once in government, the NDP will institute the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programme, and will ensure it is properly policed.
To his critics, Gonsalves said, “I am strong like lion. I am iron. This man back broad”, and he promised to rise after every fall.
Claiming that the NDP leader, Dr Godwin Friday is “a lazy man” Gonsalves said after the next general election, he (Gonsalves) will be the ‘Six Star General’ in St Vincent and the Grenadines. If the Unity Labour Party (ULP) is successful at the polls, it will be their sixth consecutive win in general elections.
