Government has distributed letters for 128 lots of lands to persons in two areas in the constituency of North Windward.

The distribution of offer letters to the potential land owners took place at a ceremony on Friday, November 15, 2024, held at Langley Park in Georgetown.

Speaking at the ceremony, Member of Parliament for the area, Montgomery Daniel described the occasion as “another historic moment for the constituents of North Windward.”

Daniel, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said there is no doubt in his mind that the lands which were given out, “will be transformed in a much better way, for the life and living of our people”.

The area in Langley Park consists of nine acres of land which were previously used by the Ministry of Agriculture for operations relating to the banana industry.

Daniel explained that there are 94 lots of land at Langley Park, and 34 lots at Orange Hill, for which persons received letters. The land is being sold to the new owners at $2 per square foot. Roads are to be built in the area, and Minister Daniel estimated the cost of this to be $6 million, while a further $5 million is to be spent on the establishment of a sports facility in the area.

Delivering remarks at Friday’s ceremony, Minister of Housing Orando Brewster said, “Development in our country has seen leaps and bounds,” under the Unity Labour Party (ULP) administration.

Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, also spoke at the ceremony delivering the feature address, and promised that the government will facilitate the installation of utilities.

“We will bring water here, and we will bring electricity here.”

In addition, the prime minister said “it is only a government which is concerned about the welfare of the people can carry out exercises of this kind.”

“Never before in the history of St Vincent and the Grenadines have the poor and the marginalized received lands the way we have distributed them,” he stressed.
