Pre-preschoolers turn out smartly for mock Independence Parade
The National Association of Early Childhood Educators of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Inc. (NAECE-SVG) hosted its annual Independence mock parade on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Beginning with a march from Heritage Square in Kingstown at 9:00 a.m, children, teachers and some parents marched to the Victoria Park for a rally which included a cultural component. Some 23 pre-schools divided into 11 Districts took part in the parade accompanied by the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force band.
In addition to the cultural presentations, pre-schools competed for the best presentation that best depicted the theme of independence. At the end of it all, the Fair Hall pre-school in District 6A, with 96 points, emerged in first position; followed by the Theresa Jack Pre-school in District 5, in second place having amassed 85 points; and from District 3, the Colonaire ECE with 83 points, taking the third position.
The aim of the mock parade was to to expose pre-preschoolers to the military parade, and bring the children together nationally in socialization, while also saluting professionals of importance, a release from NAECE-SVG) states. The first mock parade was held in 2019, with a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19 and the eruption of La Soufriere Volcano. This year’s presentation was the third staging of the event.
