Fisherman dies after being struck by vehicle in Calliaqua

Fisherman William “Maffi” Holder, a 44 year old resident of Villa, died at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) last Monday, October 28, 2024, after being struck by a vehicle in Calliaqua. Holder was walking on the side walk in the vicinity of Howard’s Marine in Villa when he was struck by one of the vehicles that mounted the curb during a two-vehicle incident.

Holder sustained severe injuries to his lower extremities and was transported by ambulance to the MCMH where he died. A recording making the rounds on social media showing Holder on the ground with two broken legs, while persons at the scene of the accident encouraged him to remain still.

A close friend of Holder described him as, kind, calm, and loving and revealed that he was the father of 10 children.

Another friend said Holder had come a long way from his earlier life which had led to his arrest in Barbados some years prior, to taking up fishing as his primary source of income.

The police said in a release that they have launched an investigation into the deadly accident, which, according to reports indicate that one of the persons involved may be an ex-policeman.
