Vincy Heat scores first win against El Salvador

St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Senior Men’s Football team, Vincy Heat put the disappointment of last Thursday’s 3-2 loss to El Salvador behind with a 2-1 win over the same opponents last Sunday night.

October 13, 2024, at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in Group A of League B, of the Concacaf Nations League.

Shakeem Adams put the host ahead in the 39th minute, as he swept in a pass from captain, Oalex Anderson.

However, a 71st minute header from Rudy Clavel, equalled things for El Salvador.

But the over 6,000 fans who were in attendance had much to celebrate when Diel Spring scored in the 88th minute, as St Vincent and the Grenadines scored their first win against El Salvador.

Spring poked the ball in the net, after making good of a low right side cross from Bishon Richards. When the two outfits met on Thursday, October 10,2024, El Salvador had to come from behind to win 3-2.

El Salvador took the lead in the 20th  minute through Styven Vasquez, but Brandon John got the equalizer in the 43rd  minute.

On minute 63, Shakeem Adams gave the host much to cheer about.

However, an error in the back saw Santos Ortiz equalizing with a gift of a goal in the 70th  minute.

And, Francis Castillo sealed the match for El Salvador, with a goal in the 87th  minute.

Similarly, the other group members, ended one match apiece.

On Thursday, Montserrat gained their first three points, when they edged out Bonaire, 1-0.

Scoring the decisive goal for Montserrat, was Lyle Taylor, with a 49th minute penalty.

But Bonaire turned the tables on Montserrat, beating them 1-0 in the match that preceded the Vincy Heat/ El Salvador encounter, last Sunday night. Ayrton Cicilia scored the 29th minute winner.

The November window which will be played in El Salvador, will see St Vincent and the Grenadines playing

Bonaire and Montserrat. Host, El Salvador has the same opponents.

El Salvador leads the group on 9 points, with St Vincent and the Grenadines 7; Bonaire, 4; and Montserrat, 3.
