Four new speakers stolen from St George’s Anglican Cathedral, Kingstown

One day before the visit to the Windward Islands Anglican Diocese of the outgoing Bishop of the Episcopal Church, four brand new speakers were stolen from the St George’s Anglican Cathedral in Kingstown where the Bishop was to officiate the following day.

The Priest Warden of the St George’s Anglican Cathedral, Kingstown is hoping that the person or persons responsible for stealing the speakers from the church would “pinch their conscience” and safely return them.

Steve Francis told SEARCHLIGHT yesterday, October 10, 2024 that a shipment of about a dozen speakers was brought in to use with an organ that the church had received a few months ago.

Francis added that the speakers were stored at the church. However, on October 5, 2024, it was discovered that four of the speakers were missing.

Though he said that the incident will have very little impact on the church at this point, since the system was not already installed, Francis told SEARCHLIGHT that he is extremely disappointed because he did not expect anyone to steal from the church.

He said that the church will install what they have, but would rather have a complete system in place, and is looking forward to do so in the not too distant future.

“So we’re very disappointed that this has happened, very distraught about it,” he told SEARCHLIGHT.

“I am hopeful that the police may be able to recover them, or if those who would have taken them would pinch their conscience and at least contact the church to have them safely returned, we would definitely be happy to get them back.”

Francis said that the matter was reported to the police the same day that the speakers were known to be missing. However, up to the time of going to print, he had not received any updates from police on the matter.

Bishop Curry was paying a five-day visit to the Diocese of the Windward Islands, and its St Vincent and the Grenadines offices to honour the end of his term in office this month.
