Police finally receive money for ICC T20 work

Police officers who were waiting on payment for work done during the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup have received their payments. Up to Wednesday of this week, one the officers complained to SEARCHLIGHT about the non-payment of money, saying the matter was “very frustrating”, and she was anticipating obtaining the money to help prepare her children for the return to school this week.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said on radio that same day that he had been made aware the previous day that police officers in St Vincent and the Grenadines who worked during the hosting of the ICC cricket matches at Arnos Vale, were yet to be paid.

Hours before going to press, a member of the Local Organising Committee for Cricket World Cup told SEARCHLIGHT that the officers received their payments by cheque on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

When he spoke on radio on Wednesday, Gonsalves said he understands that the ICC was yet to pass money over to Cricket West Indies “to pay a lot of people”. After several weeks, the level of frustration of officers would no doubt have dissipated.
