Skinny Fabulous wins big at Caribbean Music Awards

Gamal “Skinny Fabulous” Doyle’s recent sweep at the 2024 Caribbean Music Awards has served to add even more bookings to his already packed schedule of performances.

Last Thursday, August 29, 2024 at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York during the 2024 Caribbean Music Awards, Gamal “Skinny Fabulous” Doyle took home four accolades: Artist of the Year Male (Soca); Song of the Year-“Come Home” with Nailah Blackman; Video of the Year (Soca)-“Come Home”; and Collaboration of the Year-“Do What Yuh Want” with Mr. Killa and Asa Bantan.

“As per schedule, I have been blessed with a packed calendar. My calendar has been packed for the last maybe eight years, every year.

“So, this year turned out to be no different so I guess with the excitement of the awards I picked up last Thursday, there have been even more bookings,” the Soca King told SEARCHLIGHT on Sunday night via WhatsApp from New York City while he was driving to his fourth event for the night.

Skinny Fabulous, a six-time National Soca Monarch and a one-time winner of one National Ragga crown, added that yesterday (Monday), he was slated to perform in New York again after which he leaves for Baltimore to do a show alongside Jamaican star Timoy Janeyo “Teejay” Jones, before heading back to New York.

“…it’s just pace and waist,” Skinny Fabulous commented to SEARCHLIGHT in his usual upbeat tone.

He also said that going into the ceremony last Thursday, he was hoping and expecting to win one of the categories, but winning in four areas was a big plus for him.

“I hoped and expected to win at least one. I didn’t expect two or three, but at the same time, I wasn’t surprised,” he said, adding, “…but the big one, Artiste of Year, that one caught me off guard with full shock”.

Skinny Fabulous had six nominations, the most for any Soca artiste, the other nominations being, People’s Choice (Fans Favourite) won by Asa “Asa Bantan” Edwards (Dominica); and Performer of the Year (Soca) won by Hollice “Mr. Killa” Mapp (Grenada).

“In terms of thanks, it’s hard to sum up the amount of people that I could potentially thank on my journey because my journey has been a long journey and I know it’s about just thanking everybody who has played a role at some point in time whether its early, in the mid stages, or… just actively a part of the team now.

“…it’s a lot, so this is just a general thank you to everybody who supported me,” Skinny Fabulous said.

The Caribbean Music Awards is in place to recognize industry professionals including artistes and producers, and in 2024 included more than 40 categories, including Reggae, Soca and Dancehall.

The awards are the brainchild of the Caribbean Elite Group, which also produces Caribbean Elite Magazine.
