Joachim breaks SVG’s 50m Freestyle record at Olympics

VINCENTIAN, ALEXANDER JOACHIM gained his personal best and also reset the new St Vincent and the Grenadines mark in the Men’s 50m Freestyle, when he competed last Thursday, August 1, at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Swimming in lane one of Heat Five at the Paris La Defense Arena, Joachim touched the wall at 23.59s, beating his previous best and the St Vincent and the Grenadines record of 24.02s.

Joachim thus was ranked 45th of the 87 swimmers who swam in the ten heats.

Meanwhile, St Vincent and the Grenadines’ other swimmer at the Olympic Games, Kennice Greene, attained her personal best in the Women’s 50m.

Greene, who swam in Heat Five, clocked 27.23s to end third. She entered the heat with a best of 27. 46 seconds, but was able to erase 0.23 seconds in her first Olympic outing at age 17.

The national record stands at 27.01 seconds. Shne Joachim is the record holder.
