Argyle man shot dead in McKie’s Hill

A MINOR CAR CRASH in the Kingstown area interrupted the plans of Argyle resident, Romario Bynoe on Tuesday afternoon, July 23, 2024. He is reported to have stayed at the scene of the accident in McKies Hill for close to an hour, waiting on assistance to arrive.

This decision may have been what placed Bynoe right into the hands of a gunman who carried out a brazen daylight shooting in the residential community, killing him on the spot, and also injuring his girlfriend.

Around 5.30 p.m on July 23, pedestrians and motorists in Kingstown Park, Paul’s Avenue and Grenville Street were shocked when numerous gunshots rang out.

News quickly spread that two people had been shot just outside an apartment building on the road leading out of Level Gardens.

SEARCHLIGHT understands that Bynoe was driving a rental vehicle along McKies Hill when the left side of the vehicle collided with a wall. The vehicle was unable to be moved and so he phoned his girlfriend to inform her that he needed help.

While waiting, Bynoe reportedly sat on some pallets next to the apartment building until his girlfriend arrived. Sometime after, a gunman pounced on the unsuspecting couple, hitting Bynoe multiple times, while his girlfriend was shot in the leg and lower back.

Residents from the apartment went outside to render assistance to the couple, and the woman was rushed by police to the hospital for treatment. His girlfriend’s child also was present at the time of the shooting but was not harmed.

It is believed that information may have been passed to the gunman, informing of Bynoe’s location at McKies Hill.

The police carried out a search on the rental vehicle at the scene. It was not needed as evidence and therefore was cleared. The police say evidence points to the shooting being carried out by a lone gunman.

Sources tell SEARCHLIGHT that it was a non-national who rented the vehicle and provided Bynoe with the vehicle to drive. However, it is unclear if the person who rented the vehicle was at the scene at the time of the accident.

The victim’s father, Kerwin Bynoe, told SEARCHLIGHT he learned of the shooting incident through a call from his son’s girlfriend.

“She say she just feel she back stinging then she realize she get shoot.”

The father said that he last spoke to his son on Monday when he went to collect money to buy gas.

“He come by me Sunday and eat food. Then he call yesterday and ask for gas money.”

The father also said his son had not given any indication that he was worried or concerned about his safety.

Bynoe’s killing is the 29th homicide for the year. His death follows on the heels of a double murder of a male resident of PoleYard and a teen in early July. Last week a mass shooting occurred in Paul’s Avenue which resulted in six people being injured.
