Elderly gun shot victim says SVG is a crime country

Sixty-three year-old retired security guard, Sylvanus Matthias said he was involved in security work for 14 years, but had never seen the type of violence like what took place on Saturday night in Pole Yard, Arnos Vale.

Matthias, a resident of Pole Yard for the last four years, said he was sitting outside a shop operated by 30 year old vendor and shopkeeper, Jomarl John, when a gunman shot John multiple times killing him on the spot. He said the gunman also shot John’s friend, 16 year old Jason St. Rose killing him on the spot, and also shot him (Matthias) in both his legs.

“When me now get the bullet, me nah feel nothing, but when me feel me foot ah sleep, that ah the time me feel me get shot so me make a run off,” Matthias told SEARCHLIGHT on Monday. He said he has bullet still lodged in his leg that has to be removed.

“Me can’t feel good because is sadness and pain,” he said, adding that as a security guard he encountered persons at nights who came to steal and they would usually run away when he saw them, allowing him to draw the conclusion that they were cowards; totally opposite to the gunmen on the weekend.

“It have plenty crime this country; like is a crime country…,” Matthias said. The senior citizen received medical attention at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and was discharged.
