Pollard to be buried on Wednesday

Local cultural icon and costume designer, David Julian “Pilling” Pollard, will be laid to rest tomorrow, Wednesday June 26,2024.

Pollard passed away on Wednesday June 5. His funeral will take place at the Wilson Hill New Testament Church of God, with viewing scheduled for 9:00 a.m, and the funeral service set to begin at 10:00 a.m.

Last week, Minister of Culture Carlos James, speaking about Pollard’s death said he wants to use the Victoria Park as the venue for the repast.

“It is a fitting tribute that we can honour this great man of culture. We are going to end it off home here in Victoria Park on Wednesday,” James said, as he stressed that Pollard’s work and legacy in Mas must be recognised.

“I have a particular interest when I see men like Pilling working tirelessly. One of the last assignments he had was the training of young persons in building Mas in North Leeward, and that is why you see this level of advocacy,” James said.

“I think it’s important that we protect the legacy of everyone who’s involved in culture because what they bring to our holistic development as a people, as a nation, you can’t measure that in dollars and cents.”

Pollard has been described by the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) as having had an unwavering dedication to the arts, and leaving an indelible mark on the culture of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

“A visionary whose profound impact on the cultural art form of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, particularly Vincymas, will be remembered for generations,” the CDC said in a press release.
