Park Hill Government School gets financial donation from PM Gonsalves

Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves has made a financial donation to the Park Hill Government School.

The donation, by way of two cheques totalling $5,000 was made on Thursday June 20, 2024, at the school’s graduation ceremony and presented to principal, Elizabeth Johnson. The first cheque for $2,000 is for the Pearl Best Early Childhood Centre, which is an extension of the Park Hill Government School.

The second cheque in the amount of $3,000 was to be shared among the graduating class, and the remainder will go towards the school.

Dr Gonsalves, who is the Parliamentary Representative for North Central Windward, which encompasses Park Hill, was one of the speakers at last Thursday’s graduation ceremony.

In his address, the Prime Minister paid glowing tribute to Principal Johnson and also to teacher, Mikey Boyea who will be retiring soon.

He appealed as well to parents to monitor their young children closely and observe whether or not they have any learning disabilities and make the necessary interventions.

Prime Minister Gonsalves underscored as well, the need for quality parenting, quality school leadership, and quality teaching across St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Past pupil, and now a medical social worker Kevon Glasgow, was the guest speaker at the graduation.

Speaking directly to the 19 graduating students, Glasgow admonished them that this is a time for them to reflect, and to be thankful to God for his goodness.

He said their graduation signals the end, as well as the beginning, and it is just another chapter in life’s journey. As the students are now preparing to begin secondary school in September, Glasgow appealed to them to be open minded and positive. While they may face many challenges along the way, Glasgow told them “don’t give up”.

Deputy Chief Education Officer, Joycelyn Blake-Browne thanked the principal for serving this country as an educator for the past 42 years.

In congratulating the students, Blake- Browne told them that they must work smart in order to achieve success.

“Attitude determines altitude,” Blake- Browne noted.

In her remarks, outgoing principal, Elizabeth Johnson encouraged her students to go forward with confidence.
