Vermont woman charged with burning 12-year-old between legs, buttocks
A Vermont woman, who is alleged to have burnt a 12-year-old girl between her legs and on her buttocks with an electric iron was denied bail at her arraignment.
Josette Garrway, 45 appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on August 30, where she was not required to plea to the indictable charge of causing bodily harm.
Garraway is charged that on August 29, at Vermont she did unlawfully and maliciously caused grievous bodily harm to the child of Vermont with intent to do so.
Prosecutor Corlene Samuel objected to bail, before informing the court that the child is still warded at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as she has suffered serious burns to her body.
It is also alleged that along with inflicting burns on the child, Garraway struck the girl on her feet with a hammer.
Magistrate John Ballah denied Garraway bail and remanded her in custody. The matter is adjourned and transferred to the Serious Offences Court for a hearing on September 11, 2023.
