Slain teen in the wrong place at the wrong time – aunt
by Kemarlie Durrant
A relative of the 14-year-old who died during a mass shooting in Kingstown on Wednesday night believes that the youngster was “in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
The atmosphere yesterday in the community of Rockies where Kashie Primus resided was one of deep sadness.
When SEARCHLIGHT visited the family of the deceased, a woman who identified herself as his aunt said that the family is “broken” and she is lost for words.
As tears ran down her face, the woman explained that Kashie’s mother feels as though “she is going crazy.” She added that the devastated mother was too heartbroken to even put words together to speak to the reporter.
She described Primus as “very jovial and very helpful,” and said he was someone who she could always depend on.
As it relates to his murder, the grieving aunt declared that “Kashie was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
She said that he grew up in the area where he was killed and because of this, he usually frequents the area. She added that because school is on vacation, he is given some freedom to be outside a little later than usual.
The teen was a student of the Intermediate High School and had been promoted to the second form for the new school year in September.
The aunt said that Primus’s older brother is “traumatized” as he was in the area where his brother was shot and had to assist with putting Kashie into a vehicle to be rushed to the hospital.
When SEARCHLIGHT caught up with elder brother, Nasir Primus, an artiste who produced hits during the carnival season, he appeared very emotional and he said that he was not in the right frame of mind to speak.
However, a few hours after the incident, he took to his Facebook page where he made several posts on his timeline expressing his sorrow.
In one post he said ,”Everyday ah my life I really pray not to lose you Kashie, I don’t understand dis I’m going crazy”
While in another post he said, “Oh gosh bro I tried to save you, but dey took u from me, you’re innocent I just can’t believe this, my life ain’t d same nomo…”
SEARCHLIGHT also spoke with a youngster who was seen sobbing uncontrollably and who identified himself as a “very close friend” of the deceased.
He said, “we went everywhere together” and he described the sudden loss of his friend as very shocking as he had heard from Kashie only a few days before he died.
The youth, who is also a teenager said that he does not feel safe in the country at the moment and noted that, “ I could’ve been there with him and I get shoot up too.”
But he also said that he believes that his friend was only a bystander.
Neighbours and other persons in the community described the sudden death of the boy as very shocking as they cannot come to grips with what transpired.
Primus was one of five persons who died during a mass shooting at the Harbour Club area of Upper Bay Street Kingstown at around 8:00 pm on July 19.
Four persons died on the spot, the teen died at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, while one other person remains hospitalized following the incident.
Wednesday’s killings bring the homicide count in St Vincent and the Grenadines for 2023 to 35.
