Fireman’s ‘Madness’ burns up Carnival City
Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper has bagged two crowns for Vincy Mas 2023 and proven to the competition why he is the “ruler” of the local Soca land.
On Wednesday, July 12, he was announced as the 2023 Road March winner with his song ‘Madness’ following the conclusion of the National Carnival activities.
The win came just days after ‘Fireman’ claimed the win in the Power Soca category of the Soca Monarch competition on Saturday, July, 8.
Although his success in the Road March competition has not been as bountiful as in the Soca Monarch competition with 12 wins, ‘Fireman’ has held his own over the years, taking the Road March crown in 2014 with ‘Unruly’, and three second places in 2017 with ‘Wild’, 2018 with ‘Amen,’ and 2022 with ‘Bad Demon’.
There was no Road March competition in 2020 or 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s Soca Monarch show featured a slew of youngsters and first-timers. ‘Fireman’ retained his crown with 69 points, and Zimbroy ‘Ghaza’ Joseph with ‘Carnival is in d Air’ garnered 41 points to land in position number two.
