NDP describes former candidate’s contribution to nation building as exemplary
THE New Democratic Party (NDP) has extended condolences on the passing of former educator Elvis Daniel and spoke positively of his contribution to national development.
Daniel died on Thursday, June 15 after a short illness.
In 2005, and again in 2010 Daniel contested General Elections in the North Windward Constituency as a candidate for the New Democratic Party (NDP).
On both occasions, Daniel was defeated at the polls by Montgomery Daniel of the ruling Unity Labour Party.
The former educator also served for many years as a pastor at the Langley Park Church of Christ in Georgetown.
In a statement issued after his death, the NDP expressed condolences to Daniel’s family, his church family and the constituents of North Windward.
He was one of three teachers who had resigned their jobs to contest General Elections and were not reinstated after their defeat at the polls.
The NDP said that as an educator, Daniel “taught at all levels of the educational institution in St Vincent and the Grenadines,” and that “He was recognized as one of the best Mathematics teachers in this country.”
The party’s statement also described Daniel’s contribution to national development as “exemplary”.
While warded at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital in April this year, Daniel spoke with some positivity about his treatment at the nation’s main healthcare facility.
Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT after eight day warded at the institution, Daniel described his stay there as “fairly good.”
He also commended the nurses for their hard work and for doing a great job in caring for patients .
Persons in the Georgetown community described Daniel as a man of strong faith in God, who never compromised his Christian principles.
Many of his past students expressed gratitude for the impactful manner in which he was able to share his knowledge.
