Georgetown residents saddened by passing of popular figure, ‘Maxi’
Residents of Georgetown are still trying to come to terms with the death of a popular figure, Maxon Horne.
The 53 year old security guard, who was also known as Maxi, died at his home on Tuesday, February 21 after he was involved in an accident along the Colonaire Public Road.
Horne was the lone rider of a motorcycle, which crashed into a wall at Colonaire on February, 7.
He was taken to the nearby Georgetown Hospital and later transferred to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) in Kingstown.
Horne was discharged from the MCMH on Saturday, February, 18 and died at his home in Chile Village.
The popular resident was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the accident; however, he suffered spinal and other serious injuries.
When news of his passing broke on Tuesday morning, February 21, many residents were in shock, as they did not know that Horne was the person who was involved in the Colonaire accident.
“I didn’t even know that he was in the hospital or anything like that, much less to hear that he died.
“He was a very popular person in the community, always around and always willing to lend a helping hand,” one resident recalled.
Other persons spoke of not seeing him for a while, but simply thought that he was working out of the area, so it was really a shock when they got the news on Tuesday.
Maxi was described as a selfless, fun loving person, who was always ready to jokingly harass others.
His relatives are currently making arrangements for his funeral.
Since Maxi’s passing, there has been a general atmosphere of sadness in Georgetown.
Maxi had also resided for some time in Biabou, but Georgetown always remained his home.
