Paul’s Lot man survives after being shot six times
A shooting in Kingstown on Sunday morning almost claimed the life of Paulâs Lot resident Jawanza âSangaâ Fraser.
Fraser was shot six times, while standing in the road in Paulâs Lot, opposite Avenues Sports Bar.
The businessman said he was on his phone when a silver Toyota Corolla Runx pulled up close to him and he observed persons inside, after which he was riddled with bullets.
He said one of the persons in the vehicle attempted to get out, but a woman began screaming and the man dropped back into the vehicle.
The vehicle then sped off in the direction of the Gaymes Book Store, made an illegal left turn towards the St Vincent Electricity Services (VINLEC) building, with shots being fired from the car while the assailants made good their escape.
The shooting was done in the full view of several children who were playing in the area at the time.
Fraser was rushed to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), where medical personnel stabilized him. He was shot three times in his left arm, once in his hip, once in his chest and once on the right side of his neck.
Fraser, who was in high spirits on Monday, said that he would like to apologize for the harsh response he gave to police officers who visited him soon after he was shot and wanted to ask him questions. He said that he was in pain and had overreacted.
The father of two also thanked the medical personnel at the MCMHâs Accident and Emergency Department, who he said dealt with him efficiently and professionally with what they had on hand.
Fraserâs shooting on Sunday brought the number of persons wounded by firearms within a 24-hour period to nine, as on Saturday night at around 9, eight persons were shot at Diamond, with one dying, in what has gone down as the biggest mass shooting in Vincentian history.
Fraserâs wounding was the second daring daylight shooting in less than three weeks, as on Tuesday, September 26, a masked gunman shot and killed Wendell âGrindyâ OâNeil, wounded Chauncey resident Jihan Browne and grazed Kelvin Isaac at around 1:30 p.m., along a section of the seawall outside the gate of the Leeward Bus Terminal.
