SVG Medical Association tugs against prostate cancer

The Be Fit Movement was the last team standing at the Tug-O-War event held by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Medical Association (SVGMA) last Saturday.

The event, held under the theme, “Putting our strengths together, tugging against prostate cancer,” was held at the Victoria Park in Kingstown.

In her welcome address, president of the SVGMA Dr Rosalind Ambrose reiterated that September was prostate awareness month.

She said action has been taken to raise awareness about the condition, as an increasing number of men in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) are being diagnosed with prostate cancer, because they are not paying attention to their bodies and doing their annual check-ups.

She also reminded those present of the October breast cancer activities, including the Pink Day Sales, to be held on Friday, October 6 and the Pink Cap City Walk on Friday, October 13.

In the first segment of the competition, Conquerers were the overall winners, overcoming four teams from the Girls’ High School #23 Ranger company, as well as three other teams – Queens, Lionesses and David’s Warriors.

In segment two, the fourth place and St Clair Stapleton-Masa Air Ambulance trophy was taken by the St Vincent and the Grenadines cadet corps; the third place WE FM trophy was won by the St Vincent Grammar School; second place and the Irie Travel trophy went to the staff of Massy Supermarkets.

The Be Fit Movement, led by Lindon James, walked away with the first place SVGMA championship trophy and bragging rights as the ‘last team standing’ in the 2017 tug-o-war competition.
