Stanley ‘Stalky’ John’s law chambers broken into
John further explained that although a full assessment had not been done up to press time, noticeably missing is part of the officeâs electronic surveillance system (including the DVR recorder), their Internet set-up (modem) and telephone equipment. He also mentioned a computer.
“At this point, we are trying to access the extent of the intrusionâ¦the matter is under investigation,â John said.
When asked if he thought the burglary had anything to with the petition cases, John said he is not in a position to answer in the affirmative, while also noting that he did not want to go into details, as the matter is under investigation.
He said that it was difficult to say what the burglary was about and the police have started their investigations and he would not want to pre-empt their efforts or interfere in any way.
This is the second time that the Halifax Street based office has been burglarized and John said that the first burglary, which happened quite a number of years ago, is what prompted the installation of a security system.
This is the second burglary in less than a month in the area, as on Friday, July 7, between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., a burglary took place at the Postal Corporation, with cash, cheques and other items totalling EC$75,000 being removed.
Police constable Ettian Charles is currently on remand, having been charged in relation to the Post Office heist.(LC)
