Totalling 154 points, Layou Government doused the “more fire” chant of Buccament Government, who compiled 138 points.

One of the early favourites, the Kingstown Preparatory School docked in third with 122 points.

Layou Government added the female title to their takings, as the school finished on 102 points; Buccament Government was second with 69 points and third was Sion Hill Government, 65.

In the male category, it was a close call for the top three places.

In a near photo finish, Petersville Primary emerged the winner with 70 points, slimly edging out Buccament Government’s tally of 69 points.

Georgetown Government compiled 67 points to finish third.

Games teacher at the Layou Government Allan Straker, commenting to SEARCHLIGHT on his schools’ triumph, expressed “a bit of surprise” with overall placing.

Straker said he knew his athletes were training hard, but was surprised with the effort they put out on the big occasion.

He noted that many of the athletes took advantage of the mini meets put on by Team Athletics SVG, which in his opinion brought that competitive edge.

Overall, Straker believes it was a total team effort, and praised emerging track and field coach Chester Morgan for assisting in the school’s preparations.

But despite topping the championships, Layou did not pouch any of the individual awards.

Chenzen Hooper of the Georgetown Government was the male Under-7 champion, with Deajaun Collins of the Stephanie Browne Primary claiming the male Under-9 title.

The Petersville Primary’s Ravern Barker took the male Under-11 title and Curtron Myle of the Buccament Government was the male Under-14 winner and the Victor Ludorum.

The Victrix Ludorum title was copped by the St Mary’s Roman Catholic’s Xaria Bascombe, who was also the female Under-9 champion.

Tiffany Douglas of the Petit Bordel Primary took the female Under-7; Mackayla Mc Dowald of the New Grounds Primary – the female Under-11 and Zarnesha Myle – female Under-14 champion. (RT)
