The ten are 22-year-old Bonnie Allicot of Dauphine; Kimeisha Bailey, 20 of Belair; Hadia Creese, 23 of Campden Park; Anna Ellis, 18 of Byera; Jodesia John, 18 of Questelles; Aphesa Matthews, 21 of Stubbs; Ahelle Morgan, 24 of Diamond; Shanon Murphy, 20 of Richmond Hill; Patsy Richards, 25 of Hopewell and Joeverne Webb, 23 of Edinboro.

They will be vying for more than just the crown, but also an opportunity of gaining a scholarship valued at EC$80,000 to the University of the West Indies.

According to Cheryl Rodriguez, Chairman of the Beauty Shows Committee, this is perhaps one of the bigger attractions, as is evident by some of the responses from the contestants themselves.

The young women are currently undergoing training which includes sessions in media and interview, current affairs and confidence building.

This year, an initiative of the Carnival Development Committee and the Beauty Shows Committee was implemented, that of the selection of chaperones who will be working with the contestants.

“This was done to ensure professionalism throughout their training and on the night of the pageant,” Rodriguez explained.

Another first in this year’s competition is that the sashing of the contestants will now take place during the official first public appearance at the launch of Vincy Mas, May 8.

“We figured the sashing ceremony was a bit too low key, so we decided to change it,” Rodriguez said.

The delegates will be engaged in a series of activities leading up to the show which include motorcades to the Windward and Leeward side of the island and around Kingstown and meetings with members of Cabinet.

The show is scheduled to be held on Saturday May 29.(DD)
