Former Footballer to compensate Massy for stealing rum

A former national footballer was ordered to compensate Massy Stores after stealing rum, which he claimed he uses to numb the pain he feels as a result of medical issues regarding his prostate.

Ivan Dupont appeared at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate, Tammika McKenzie on April 9, 2025 where he pleaded guilty that on March 27 and April 8, 2025 he stole two one-quart of Sunset Strong Rum valued EC$27.12, the property of Massy Stores, Kingstown.

The facts are that on March 27 at about 11:06 a.m, Lionel DaSilva, who is a supervisor at Massy Stores, was walking about the supermarket completing his routine checks when he recognized Dupont was in the line at cashier number four, fumbling with his black backpack.

DaSilva became suspicious and reviewed CCTV footage of Dupont’s movement while he was in the supermarket. The footage showed Dupont picking up a quart of Sunset Strong Rum valued at EC$13.56, then walking past the cashier without paying for it.

DaSilva saved the footage on a flash drive. On April 8, 2025 at about 9:00 a.m, DaSilva observed Dupont take a quart of Sunset Strong Rum and go to Aisle 3 with it in his hand.

He then returned without the rum in his hand and walked out of the supermarket without going to the cashier. DaSilva approached Dupont and identified himself .
