Lowmans Leeward labourer granted bail on wounding charge

A 44-YEAR-OLD who allegedly hit a 54-yearold multiple times in the head with a board/stick with nails in it, has been granted bail following the discharge of the alleged victim from the hospital.

Lowmans Leeward resident, labourer Kelbert Sandy, appeared in the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court(KMC) on May 31. There the charge was read to him that he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Cecil Young of Kingstown on May 29 in Kingstown.

He also allegedly stole EC$20 from Young on the same date.

The prosecution initially objected to bail for the accused man, who had entered ‘not guilty’ pleas, because Young was still warded at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) with injuries to the head.

They asked that the matter be reviewed on Friday, June 4, when there would be an update on Young’s condition.

When the matter was recalled on Friday, the court was informed that the alleged victim had been discharged. Bail was granted in the sum of $2500 with one surety, and a ‘no contact’ order with Young was ordered.

The case was adjourned to October 13.
