As a result of his plea, McDowall, 25, of Murrayâs Village was sentenced to eight years imprisonment by Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle at the High Courtâs Criminal Assizes on June 21.
McDowall pleaded guilty to robbing Burgin of $285, while he was walking in the vicinity of the old Electoral Office on Egmont Street.
The court heard that at approximately 8: 30 p.m., Burgin was walking in the vicinity when McDowall and another man approached him. At the time, McDowall, who was armed with a knife, placed the knife at the Burginâs neck and took his money.
Luckily, the man said he knew McDowall, and a security guard who was nearby also saw when the robbery took place.
On January 21, 2012, McDowall suffered three gunshot wounds to his hip, buttock and side, and was hospitalized for about a week. (KW)
