On Thursday, June 2, Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle sentenced Alvis to 15 years imprisonment for rape and eight years imprisonment on a kidnapping charge. The charges will run concurrently.

Bruce-Lyle expressed the opinion that society has taken rape “too lightly”. “It is time a clear message is sent out…. Anybody found guilty of rape will face the full force of the law,” Bruce-Lyle said sternly.

On December 18, 2008, Alvis kidnapped the 15-year-old girl while she was awaiting transportation to go to her home. He then took her to a beach and raped her.

Sejilla McDowall led the case for the crown.
