On Thursday, June 2, Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle sentenced Alvis to 15 years imprisonment for rape and eight years imprisonment on a kidnapping charge. The charges will run concurrently.
Bruce-Lyle expressed the opinion that society has taken rape âtoo lightlyâ. âIt is time a clear message is sent outâ¦. Anybody found guilty of rape will face the full force of the law,â Bruce-Lyle said sternly.
On December 18, 2008, Alvis kidnapped the 15-year-old girl while she was awaiting transportation to go to her home. He then took her to a beach and raped her.
Sejilla McDowall led the case for the crown.
