Venezuelan, Trini charged with possession of 172,140 Euros

Venezuelan national Milagros Del Valle Pajero Guaimare and Trinidadian Donny Rochford are currently being held in police custody on a charge of unlawful possession of 172,140 Euros and 3,120 Euros,{{more}} which is reasonably suspected of being stolen or unlawfully obtained.

The duo was hauled before the Serious Offences Court on Wednesday, May 11, by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). Guaimare is charged with possession of the 172,140 Euros and Rochford with the 3120 Euros.

Both are charged under section 308, Chapter124 of the Revised Edition of the laws of St Vincent and the Grenadines 1990.

When the aspect of bail arose, Prosecutor Adolphus Delpesche told the court that both defendants are flight risks and since both have no ties in St Vincent they would abscond and not return.

Reports are that on May 7, 2011, the defendants allegedly attempted to leave St Vincent and the Grenadines with the monies concealed in their luggage.

It is further alleged that the couple had checked in on a LIAT flight, destined for Trinidad.

Representing both accused, attorney Patina Knights contended that even if they do not have ties to St Vincent, a cash bail could be allowed, with conditions attached to it. She noted that Guaimare is the mother of a young child and Guaimare’s mother is taking care of that child, but can’t do so for the long term.

The matter was adjourned to September 19, 2011, for hearing at the Serious Offences Court.
