The men, Carson Aaron Thomas, 29, of Clare Valley, Rodney Dennis Deroche, 26, of Questelles and Samuel Alphonso James, 39, of Park Hill, were charged with importing 323 pounds of marijuana to Barbados on April 18.

The men were allegedly apprehended in Barbados territorial waters.

They were also charged with the possession of the drug, and having a trafficable quantity of the drug and possession with intent to supply the drug, which was estimated to have a street value of BDS $646,000.

The men were not required to plead to the charges.

They were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds by Acting Magistrate Manila Renee, after prosecutor Sergeant Wendell Greenidge objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the charges and the men’s nationality.

One of the men, Samuel James, noted that while he is Vincentian, he had lived in Barbados for more than 19 years and had status there, which prompted the magistrate to request that an immigration officer be present at their next hearing to verify this.
