Woman jailed for attempting to smuggle cigarettes to prisoner
Twenty-four-year-old Redemption Sharpes resident Tafasha Sergeant brought more than a bowl of food with her when she visited prisoner Colin Westfield at the Central Police Station.{{more}}
Chief Magistrate Sonya Young on Tuesday, October 12, sentenced Sergeant to three months imprisonment after she pleaded guilty to conveying six Empire cigarettes and one cigarette lighter to Westfield.
The court heard that on October 10, 2010, at about 1:30 p.m., Sergeant went to the station office where a prisonerâs cell is located. Sergeant had brought with her a bowl of pelau for Westfield.
A thorough inspection of the food by a police officer discovered the cigarettes and lighter. (KW)
