No evidence of boat engines traded for drugs

Commissioner of Police Keith Miller says he has no evidence or information that Pirates who are stealing boat engines from fisherman in Trinidad and Tobago have been exchanging them for marijuana here.{{more}}

An article from the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian, dated September 5, 2010, quoted sources in the fishing industry saying: “Pirates who are stealing boat engines from fishermen have been exchanging them for marijuana in St. Vincent.” The source further stated: “We understand these engines are going to St Vincent in return for boatload of weed…”

Miller on Tuesday told SEARCHLIGHT that no report has ever been lodged to the police about any engine. “…Most times when we intercept Trinidadian criminals, we find them with marijuana or cocaine…they may well be swapping drugs for other things, but we do not know of any engines,” Miller stated.

Stressing the importance of keeping criminal elements from Trinidad at bay, Miller implored Vincentians not to harbour criminals from Trinidad here.

“We are doing everything in our power to keep out Trinidadian criminals… When we put the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) in Chateaubelair, you think is for joke? This is not a joke business,” Miller asserted. (KW)
